Faith

Faith is by far the virtue that brings the greatest peace of mind to the human spirit. It is inseparably matched by patuience and acceptance, the mainly emotional traits necessary to face suffering and trouble while we go through out our pilgrimage on Earth.

Through faith we learn to thank the Lord for the many blessings bestowed upon us and leaning on this virtue we do become stronger and enabled to work ourselves out of difficult situations, many times felt as affictions, were our path not guided by Faith.

When facing suffering and hindrances, if Faith is present we are enabled to accept problems as necessary means towards God’s designs. But the Faith guiding us must be a diligent one, so as to give us certainty and courage thus allowing the awareness of the tasks yet to be completed and tests yet to go through.

Blind faith, based simply upon our ardent wish to attain our earthenly goals through the miraculous intervention of some divine being - although deriving from respect to Godly powers - demands action. We should not expect to be given everything we dream of directly from Heavens. We should work hard guided by the belief that we will reach what we need, no matter the pitfalls we may have to encounter. It is not advisabel to just plead and keep aloof, expecting God to give us all we have dreamed of and want for ourselves. Many people with persistence and confidence are able to impregnate themselves with such strong faith that it indeed returns by means of good actions to those who have not failed to keep their faith.

Yet, there are some people who, while facing problems, say that they have, yes, asked God for strenght. But they also say that they have left it up to God, therefore, they do expect Him to do as He chooses... By adopting such an attitude people are not showing conformity but indeed an enormous lack of hope!

We must and in fact we do need to always have an everlasting confidence in the Divine Mercy, as It always comes to our rescue in critical moments, but we nevertheless must dedicate ourselves to do our part. And this means we should always be looking for ways at our disposal or within reach so as to find solutions or at least to make problems more acceptable. While dealing with health problems, for instance, searching for their cause or trying to find what to do to overcome them, will alow us to either stop infirmity or mitigate its consequences or at least accept the inevitable, pleading with God for the necessary strenght to go through such hardships.

This is what we can truly call resignation; it implies accepting tests without giving up to them, without allowing them to restrict our action, trying to go on with our life, confident that things will soon pass and that certain events do happen to our advantage alowing us to become stronger.

When we do awaken to the realities of our life on Earth and to the fact that difficulties are means leading to true Faith – since Faith does frequently rise from the hardest of afflictions, we tend to become fulfilled with confidence and finally able to understand that problems, no matter how big they seem, can certainly be solved; while the solution at hand may not seem the best for us at that particular moment, it might appear different later on, when we finally realize what purpose has it met in our life.

We should not allow suffering to become untamed, that is, we should not think that our pains are the hardest to face, ignoring others who are right then and there facing much greater problems than ours, and yet do not utter one single word of revolt, while we do nothing but complain. As a matter of fact, the resignation of the one who suffers showing no bitternes or rebellion is one of the sources of inspiration helping us the strenghtening in sincere Faith, when we do realize how many others are there who are going through crucial problems in their lives. They should be seen as models and incentives, helping us to avoid revolt, while they show an understanding and most of all the great Faith in God that allow them hope of overcoming all their problems and regain the peace that their spirit may momentarily lack. Cultivating Faith in our inner-self is a necessary habit that enables the expression of resignation and confidence, two traits that allow changing an adverse situation into a positive one.

So as to let Faith blossom, even if in just a tiny measure, one should work tirelessly against negative powers such as depression, pessimism and indifference. Changing our innermost feelings into positive ones will help building vivid Faith and while it starts gaining full development through the strenghtening of our will, we cease to subside to feelings of discouragement and incredulity, commonly attacking those who have to deal with hardships.

Pain and suffering may time and again surround us but there are certain phases in life when all hell seems loose and coming from all directions, whether in the form of sickness, or unemployment, or disloyalty from a loved one, family misunderstandings and many other situations that strike as a never-ending storm. But no matter their dimension, problems and difficulties shall pass, for they, too, as everything else in life, are transitory and should be taken as learning opportunities to set us free from imperfection and help us building strong and sound goals.

When we finally decide to start disclosing the mysteries of life, meditating why is affliction an inherent part of human experience, we might find that everything in life has a meaning and that God Almighty in His enconpassing generosity and fairness would not inflict us with suffering just for His own pleasure. And if we do come to face problems, while others go on living without such hardships, there might be a reason. Yet, we may find many who are suffering in much greater extension than us, who are facing serious problems of different kinds and yet going through their burdens without loosing their faith in God’s kindness and mercy, while we, on the contrary, believe that ours is the greatest suffering and pain will never leave us...

We should instead meditate on Saint Agustin’s words as He says: What remedy should there be recommended to those who are attacked by crude obsessions and excruciating calamities? One and only one is infalible: HAVE FAITH, KEEP YOUR EYES HIGH ABOVE TOWARD HEAVENS.The best remedy for suffering is Faith, as it points to endless horizons, allowing the somber day of the present to fade away. Do not ask again which remedy is there to cure this ulcer, to face this temptation, or that test. Remember that the one who believes is strong by the remedy of Faith, while the one who doubts the efficacy of Faith even if just for a second, is calling for the instant punishment of anguish.

By changing our attitude toward life, we may grasp, through searching and questioning, the meaning of what we consider suffering. Searching for such understanding may lead us to greater serenity and resignation.

O Evangelho Segundo o Espiritismo - Capítulo V - item 19

Observing

As days go by I find myself mesmerized by the perfection of the Universe that reveals we can trust in a Greater Force conducting its flow.
When we understand that everything comes effortless just at the right moment... if we do our part, it will keeps us more serene while waiting... whether for a job... for a dream... for love... or anything else in harmony with the Divine Will...
It always comes... and we can observe through very clear signs, the touch of the great Mystery behind it all... like a signature undoubtedly belonging to the Creator.
Obviously our personal desires and lack of patience sometimes interfere and even get in the way... but we always can return to the natural flow of life and go with it… effortless, to what is our destiny…
When I say Go with the flow, it doesn’t mean to cross our arms and stand still... It means allowing the Divinity to guide our actions...

For our Gift to flow... and our path manifests itself... the connection with our divine part is needed more and more… so our actions can be inspired by it. An action guided like this doesn’t have to be rationalized. It goes so smoothly and simply that you hardly notice it… except by feeling extremely happy. It seems like it happens by itself and that everything was so well planned, in its smallest details… that we only can thank and bow…
I know we’re living in difficult times and we’re constantly taken from our centre... but it’s also a time of miracles and help from the Masters of Light... we just have to pay attention where we put our energy... on what our attention is focused.
It’s a time of choice... and we see lots of people choosing to release what doesn’t work or add, searching for self knowledge... as we also see others that, even having the opportunity to do it, choose to stay in the same old patterns...

We can judge others, hence each one of us know about our own history and pain, but it’s good to remember that this time we are living now in this planet is special and definitive, and our choices can be decisive concerning very special matters…
It’s worthy dedicating more time and attention to our growth, knowing that when we change, the Whole changes also...

How many times we try to make things happens at all costs… unsuccessfully?

How many unexpected things come to us when we’re relaxed and distracted, and they are even better that we thought?
When we try to be centered and present... it gets easier to watch the perfect movement of the Universe... without interfering too much... because we know that, even when not visible to the eye, things are happening in a different level to be manifested in our reality at the right time… and enchant our lives.

Transformation

Nature has uncountable ways that are ever changing. Nothing remains static and everything has the inner quality of becoming its own opposite.
It isn't different when it comes to human beings and this law can be applied to any situation of our existence. Sadness can become joy, haste becomes relaxation, anxiety becomes serenity, etc.
But our feelings and moods can only go under transmutation if we are permanently aware of their existence. If we can at every moment of life notice the roots which give birth to our emotions, mainly the negative ones, we'll be certainly able to promote change into a different state.
But it doesn't take a desperate fight to obtain this result.
Permanent observation of our inner self and the strong decision of desiring to change constitute the main step to attain this goal.
Its important for us to know that no bad condition has to last forever and we all deserve to live in a state of peace and happiness.
When this awareness is reached we start to look for new ways of dealing with life's situations in order to transform those situations which bring suffering into opportunities of liberation and inner development.

Blessing is the only criterion for life. If your life isn't blessed then know that you are moving erroneously. Suffering is the criterion of being wrong, and blessing is of being right – there is no other criteria.
There is no need to ask anybody else. You can use this criterion in your day-to-day life. The criterion is blessing. It's the same criterion of testing gold by rubbing it against a rock: the goldsmith will throw away whatever is not pure, and bring to his store what is pure. Keep on checking everyday using the criterion of blessing; see what is right and what is wrong.
Whatever is wrong can be thrown away and whatever is right will start to slowly accumulate like a treasure.

Hug therapist - the power of a hug

It has been proved that showing affection strengthens growth and positive development in people. We all need physical contact to feel good, and one of the most important ways of physical contact between two people is hugging. Who does not need cuddles in this society that is becoming ever colder, more competitive, that compels us to be more individualistic, more personal-goal oriented...? When we hug, we receive an energy feedback. We bring life to our senses and reaffirm the trust in our senses. Sometimes we CANNOT find the right words to express how we feel, and then hugs are the best way to say it. We need four hugs a day to survive, eight to preserve ourselves, and twelve to grow. A hug makes you feel good. The skin is the biggest organ we have and it needs a lot of love. A hug can cover an extensive part of the skin and provides the massage you need. It is also a way to communicate. It can convey messages for which you have no words. We can always resort to the universal language of hugs. The Power of Hugs
Hugging achieves many things that you might never have imagined. For example:
  • It feels good
  • It dissolves solitude
  • It defeats fear
  • It opens the door to sensations
  • It improves self-esteem (wow, he or she wants to hug me!)
  • It encourages altruism (I can't believe it, but I want to hug that person)
  • It delays aging (those who hug age more slowly)
  • It helps reduce appetite (we eat less when we are nourished with hugs and when our arms are wrapped around others)
More benefits from hugs:
  • It is environmentally friendly (it does not damage the environment)
  • It preserves energy
  • It is portable and requires no additional machinery
  • It does not require a special place to do it (an adequate place to hug)
  • In any place such as a conference room, a church or a football field
  • It makes happy days even happier
  • It gives us a sense of belonging
  • It fills the void in our lives
  • It is still effective even after the hugging has finished
  • It strengthens and increases our ability to share
  • It harmonizes the hearts of friends
Hugging creates some form of addiction to tenderness, to altruism, to happiness...

Just as laughter, it is highly contagious! Whatever your hug may be, let it always come from the heart, not from the mind.
Come up with new ways of hugging.
Give your hugs interesting or funny names.
Become a full-time
"hug therapist."
Be always ready to offer a hug to someone.
Observe the other person and always be careful of his or her personal space.
Do not try to impose your vision or philosophy on others.
A hug does and says very much.

Hug your friend, your loved one, your kids, your parents, your pet...
